New Ross win Regional Qualifier of Jimmy Bruen

A week in which New Ross saw off Arklow to reach the last 8 of the Barton Cup also saw success for the Jimmy Bruen team, who matched their compatriots by winning through to the Leinster quarter-finals.

In action in the regional qualifying event at Enniscorthy where the top four would advance to the matchplay stages, New Ross finished in second place out of 18 entrants with a score of 340.  New Ross faced a very difficult prospect of a well prepared home side in the semi-final.  However, a highly impressive performance saw them through by 3.5 to 1.5.  Waterford, the 2014 National Winners, beat Wexford by the odd match in the other semi-final to complete the line-up for the final.

The final was a tight affair, with excellent golf produced by some tired bodies and minds, and it was New Ross who came out on top winning the final match to seal a 3-2 victory and a place in the Leinster quarters.

The team was made up of Hugh Behan, Mick Butler, Declan Clarke, Joe Doyle, Eamon Dungan, Colm Kehoe, Michael Kelleher, Seamus O’Leary, Ger Ronan & Brian StLedger and ably managed by Brian Teague & Donal Hosey. Well done to all involved including the extended panel and all who took part in trials for the event!

In the Leinster quarter-finals, New Ross will meet the winners from the qualifying event at The Curragh which is taking place this weekend.  The quarter finals will take place at a neutral venue, most likely on the weekend of July 7/8.  The winners will advance to the Leinster Semi Finals & Final at Mount Wolseley on July 21st.
